Dang, it's been a long time!

I didn't realize how long it had been since I posted. Oops.

I've been very busy doing life stuff and working on the story. Ok, I confess. A little more life stuff than working on the story. But, I did complete my very first read through. I'm pleased. I don't hate it, so that's cool. I also don't love it, but I feel like I *could* love it. After many, many revisions. ;) At this stage, what's on the page is vastly different from the scenes as they play out in my head because they're so bare bones. But they'll get there.

I'm taking a few days off, so I won't be back to post until sometime next week. I'd like to leave you with these words of wisdom from the awe-inspiring Marjorie M. Liu. The following conversation takes place between Robert and Miri in THE RED HEART OF JADE:

"...The only truth is what we live and experience for ourselves: the moment. Once that is past, it is reshaped by our hearts and our minds. It is not raw. It is not honest. It is memory. And memory is changeable. Memory is not trustworthy."
"But we need to rely on something," Miri protested. "History teaches us, history--"
"Is nothing but fairy tales that are treated as truth. You have seen so much in the past twenty-four hours, Dr. Lee. And yet, none of it--none of this--will ever be relied upon as a means of understanding the world. Perhaps for you it will, but not anyone else. Learn from history, Dr. Lee? Better, I think, to learn from yourself. That is all the history you need."

Great quote, and I'm glad the read-through didn't suck *too* much. ;) Glad to see you back here!

I'm still up for a sort-of Nano if you are..? I will have more free time in November than I thought, so am going to try for the 50K! But I'm not going to sign-up officially and get into all that on the website. Just going to buddy-up with a couple of writing friends online. Hopefully you, and there's alos someone on LJ whose doing Nano 'for real'.

Hope you're well.

Hey girlie, I have a question for you...When did you decide you wanted to write a novel and how did you come up with what your writing about?? I love everything paranormal but can't decide what to write about, and yes, i've been interested half my life in writing a book but too lazy to start. I'm trying to get started and know nothing on HOW to start. Can you give me any pointers?? Thanks, Crystal

Karen--I'm definitely in for my 30K version of NaNo. I'll have a secret stretch goal of 50K but honestly I'm not sure I can do it so I'm going to set myself up for success, not failure. :) When I was writing 2K a day this summer I literally had to do *nothing* but writing when I got home from work. That would be hard on my husband, dog, friends, family etc for a whole month.

Crystal--I started to answer your question here but my answer is kind of long so I thought it would be better to make it into an actual post! So thanks for the idea. I'll post it as soon as I have time and am not feeling so brain dead. ;)

30K is a brilliant goal, and one I would definitely have aimed for were it not for the potential changes in my personal life... If I *do* have the extra time I think I'll have in November, I'll try for 2K a day, 6 days per week. But if not, I'll stick with 30K. Will let you know in advance! :)
