Well, I made it!
My first plane was delayed but I made my connection--and ended up seated next to two lovely ladies who are also attending RT this week! What are the chances...? It didn't appear anyone else on the plane was headed our way. Too funny.
I had the enjoyable opportunity to relive my fantastic shuttle driver karma on the way to the hotel. This year, the driver was having a raised-voice argument with someone on his bluetooth headset. Even threatening litigation! But at least his hands, feet and eyes were dedicated to driving the shuttle, unlike last year's shuttle driver experience. Jeesh. That dude was text messaging all the way from the airport to downtown Houston! One of the other passengers finally told him to knock it off before we crashed.
Stealth check in was a success. I do *not* travel well, my friends. I'm not one of those airport divas you see with the little outfit and the hair done and the makeup just so and the three inch heels on. I'm the girl with no make up, flat and/or plane-sleep-tousled hair and whatever pair of baggy, comfortable pants and fleece sweatshirt were clean. Therefore, when arriving at a hotel where the lobby is potentially filled with one's current and/or future literary idols, one strongly wishes for a cloaking device. Luckily, there was no line and I was spirited away into my room in no time at all. Phew! Tomorrow I will emerge, cocoon-like, looking all put together again. ;) For tonight, I've got a date with room service and my MacBook, which loves me no matter what my hair looks like.
I have a bunch of free time in this year's schedule, so my intent is to post daily updates on the happy-haps down here. Stay tuned!
