Product of the Week: Grammarbook.com

Reminder: Don't forget to check out the interview and contest with author Chandra Rooney here!

Product of the Week:
www.grammarbook.com

What is it?

A grammar website and newsletter. Grammarbook.com is the website corresponding to the Blue Book of Punctuation by Jane Strauss.

Why do I love it?
I'm a bit of a grammar geek. I have to qualify that and say that my grammar and punctuation aren't perfect, but I strive for them to be. Grammar and punctuation interest me. I find Jane's site easy to use. You can pull up topical menus or search by keywords. She also presents the information in an easy-to-understand fashion, typically citing the rule and then a hint on how to remember the rule, followed by one or more examples of the rule in action.

Jane also offers lots of free services on her site. Not only is access to the grammar and punctuation rules free, but she offers 68 one minute videos on grammar rules and topics. My favorite free feature is the weekly e-newsletter. Each week the newsletter tackles a different grammar related topic - right in your in-box! Here's an excerpt from today's newsletter, the topic of which was "Some 'All' vs. 'Al-' Words":

All together vs. Altogether

All together, which is a phrase, means in a group.

Examples: We are all together in the photo.

It is wonderful to be all together to celebrate your birthday.

Note that all can be omitted from sentences without affecting the meaning.

Altogether is an adverb meaning entirely, completely, everything included.

Examples: It is not altogether his fault. (entirely)
We had an altogether wonderful day. (completely)
Altogether, the groceries cost thirty dollars. (everything included)

See? She makes it very simple to understand.

There are also fee based services on Grammarbook.com, such as grammar quizzes ($0.99 each or $29.95 for a year's subscription with full access to all quizzes).

Where Can You Get It?
The website is www.grammarbook.com. The book can be purchased through Amazon or (perhaps) through your favorite local or online retailer.
