Busy, busy, busy

Last week was crazybusy. Errands, social obligations, a new Anita novel--you know how it is. ;) I didn't get a whole lot of writing done during the week, but I did bring a notebook with me to Six Flags yesterday. I managed to get about two pages done while waiting for my husband and friends to get through one of the water rides. I don't do water rides or rides I deem terrifying and/or dangerous, for example roller coasters where your legs dangle or you go upside down. No thanks.

Here's my current total:

I'm about to introduce the main love interest in the story and I have what I'm calling a Six Flags hangover (feeling tired, sore and generally crappy). Not really the best state of mind to introduce a new character. So, I'll be turning off the laptop shortly.

As I mentioned, I read the new Anita Blake novel last week--THE HARLEQUIN. I'm a big fan of both Laurell K. Hamilton series (Anita Blake and Merry Gentry) and to be honest, I'm so invested in the characters at this point, I'll probably continue to buy her books as long as she writes them. But I do feel the Anita series has gotten a bit...off track...in the last few books. Laurell, herself, even talks about this a bit on her blog. I'm delighted to say that this latest book was heavier on plot and character development and lighter on sex and heavy duty metaphysical complications than recent books have been. All in all, I'm looking forward to the next installment.

I also finished MOONSHINE by Rob Thurman. Moonshine is the sequel to NIGHTLIFE, both great reads. Thurman (who is, incidentally, a woman) stayed true to form with a beefy action plot sprinkled with just the right amount of heartfelt relationship story lines to give the characters three dimensions without feeling contrived. She also has some of the best inner monologue of the genre, in my opinion. Very clever and funny without distracting you from the main action of the story.

Now I'm turning this thing off for a few chapters of THE DEAD GIRLS DANCE by the fabulous Rachel Caine (the second book in her young adult Morganville Vampires series) and an early bedtime. See you tomorrow with a new and improved word count!

I thought I was the only one with that six flags hangover. You sneaky girl writing while we were all getting wet! I'm impressed to see your progress bar moving so quickly. And..I'm totally stealing your highly recommended list for my plane ride to Peru. That's the only time I get to read for fun these days!

That's me, sneaky. ;) Enjoy the reading, but I'm warning you that every book listed on there has something to do with vampires, werewolves, fairies or some other supernatural element. I'm a junkie. *big grin*
