The new story has been riding me hard this last week. I've been working every spare moment, everything else barely registers. Hunger? A mere triviality. Sleep? A necessary nuisance. The day job? A very, very irritating distraction. I've plotted through about three quarters of the book and have a basic idea of the rest. I'll finish the plotting tomorrow and begin work on the first draft -- yeah!
My plotting process has been much different this time. I have very detailed scene notes in most cases. The plotting for my last story was more like "They go to dinner and get attacked on the way home." This time, I've got paragraphs of information, where they go, what do they eat, dialogue, what happens in the attack, who's injured, what are the injuries, yadda yadda. I think this will make it much easier when I'm actually writing. The few scenes I had plotted out in more detail wrote quicker in the other story.
Overall, this story is much stronger. It all just feels right somehow. Very different from the feel of the first one. I still have a long journey ahead of me, but these last couple of weeks have been a thrill.
I leave tomorrow to spend some time with my family. I'll have loooooooooots of downtime and plan to get a lot of writing done. I've set aggressive word count goals for myself and expect the writing to flow easily. I can't wait to post a word count meter when I get back!!
