Before I forget, here's a link to a guest blog post by Anne Bishop which I found interesting. I can't say that my process works exactly how she describes at such a literal, cognizant level but I'm certainly gathering and absorbing bits and pieces of everything around me all the time. Having the awareness to look for such things, to key into them and store them away, kind of makes me feel like Neo in the beginning of The Matrix. Like, I know there's something waaaaaaaay larger than I am going on in this world of ours but I haven't totally figured it all out yet. ;)
Last night, Ben and I attended a charity gala for a children's theater. It was black tie optional and that means a chance to wear a pretty dress, so we took the option. :) A local magazine took a bunch of photos so I'm hoping I'll be in one of them. I'll post the link when/if the pics are up. Good times were had by all (we were there with two other couples) and, best of all, there was dancing!! I love to dance. Love, love, love it. The DJ was kind of crappy, though in his defence, it was a pretty mixed crowd so maybe he was just trying to keep everyone happy. I'd just like to take a moment to say that Brick House is one of the greatest songs ever. Ever! I requested Push It by Salt n Pepa but the dork wouldn't play it until Ben and our friend Mike went up and requested it again. Loser! Naturally, it brought a whole bunch of people out on the floor. I know what I'm doing. We also requested Baby Got Back ("My anaconda don't want none unless you got buns, hon!"). Classics. Once again, dork DJ ignored us, refusing to play The Humpty Dance. Whatever. I got to dance and wear a pretty dress so it was a good night. ;)
Speaking of dancing, I'm writing a club scene in the book right now so I was browsing YouTube for some inspiration and came across these.
This has to be the craziest shit I've ever seen a human body do outside of Cirque du Soleil:
And I LOVED watching this:
Off to write... more updates later!
