Stomp!

I saw Stomp perform last night. It was my fourth time seeing them and they were freaking fantastic, as always. If you ever have the chance to go, they're well worth the money.

For those of you who aren't familiar with who they are and what they do, they're an ultra-talented troupe of percussionists who make music with everyday objects -- matchboxes, brooms, folding chairs, plastic bags, kitchen sinks, garbage cans, etc. -- and dance (though the dancing is really more of a cool way to make the music than a main thing in an of itself). They Rock. Out. Super high energy. You'll definitely drive home tapping your fingers on your steering wheel. :) You can check out their website for more info here.

As I mentioned, I've had the pleasure of seeing them perform four times. Last night, I reacted to the opening number the same way I have every other time I've seen them: I cried a little.

I know. It's kind of weird, right? They're this super high energy, positive, rock out group that is freaking high. on. life. And I'm in the audience tearing up? The thing is, I find it really moving. I mean, how many times have you either heard someone say or said yourself: "My job sucks. I don't have enough time for ____. I don't feel good. I'm tired. I hate to exercise. I'd go back to school but _____. I'd do that thing I always meant to do but ____."

We find so many goddamn ways to cage ourselves, and these fantastic people are up there making *music*. With *brooms*.

I gotta be honest. I'm tearing up again a little bit, just trying to get this message out to all of you. I guess the point is, next time you hear yourself or (someone else) hammering another bar of your cage into place, just picture someone rocking the fuck out with a broom, or a plastic bag or a newspaper or whatever's on hand because they made it just that simple. Maybe you can find a way to make your life, your choices a little simpler, too.
