Tragically, I also can't leap into wearing any of these. (Click through to the photo gallery. It's worth it. I promise.) At least, I'm presuming I can't, since the prices are listed as 'on request'. The artist makes incredible hand made watches, each of which, I'm quite certain, would put an end to all productivity in my life, because I'd be staring at my wrist all day. Models 0568 and 0570 really deserve a closer look. The detail is exquisite from an art perspective. When you take into account that it's a functioning watch as well... wow.
So, if anyone has any recommendations for where I could find a funky and/or beautiful watch, please do share!
In other acts of genius, some friends of mine did this to another friend's cubicle while he was away on vacation last week. It might just be the best thing I've ever seen at my office:
You probably can't tell from this picture, but the level detail in this work of art rivals that of the watches in the links above. Everything was wrapped in foil. Ev. Ery. Thing. Every accessory. Every pen. Every notebook. Every chatchke (no idea how to spell that word). All meticulously wrapped in aluminum foil so that their original shape was maintained. Then each item was placed back in its original location. As you can see, they even pinned up all his pictures in their proper spots. After foiling his cubicle walls.
Genius, I tell you. Genius.
Now that I've astounded you with my deep and meaningful content, an Important Reminder! Tomorrow marks the official release day for two long-awaited, must have books:
GALE FORCE by Rachel Caine (EEEEEEEE!!!!) -- Book 7 of the Weather Warden Series
It's time Joanne Baldwin had a break. But is she getting one? Nooooooo. Instead, someone's calling up earthquakes to make her life miserable. Even David asking her to marry him can't solve her problems, and in fact, it may be adding to them, because someone has a grudge against mystical mixed marriages ... and it's someone David, and the rest of the Djinn, can't even sense, much less stop.
The storm's coming ... and it's going to be bad.
There's no need for me to discuss my hero-worship of Rachel Caine and the Weather Warden series. You're all familiar by now, yeah?
Aaaaaaaaand... STORM BORN by Richelle Mead! The first book in her new Dark Swan series.
Just typical. No love life to speak of for months, then all at once, every creature in the Otherworld wants to get in your pants...
Eugenie Markham is a powerful shaman who does a brisk trade banishing spirits and fey who cross into the mortal world. Mercenary, yes, but a girl's got to eat. Her most recent case, however, is enough to ruin her appetite. Hired to find a teenager who has been taken to the Otherworld, Eugenie comes face to face with a startling prophecy--one that uncovers dark secrets about her past and claims that Eugenie's first-born will threaten the future of the world as she knows it.
Now Eugenie is a hot target for every ambitious demon and Otherworldy ne'er-do-well, and the ones who don't want to knock her up want her dead. Eugenie handles a Glock as smoothly as she wields a wand, but she needs some formidable allies for a job like this. She finds them in Dorian, a seductive fairy king with a taste for bondage, and Kiyo, a gorgeous shape-shifter who redefines animal attraction. But with enemies growing bolder and time running out, Eugenie realizes that the greatest danger is yet to come, and it lies in the dark powers that are stirring to life within her...
I read the sample chapter for Storm Born a while back and FREAKING LOVED IT. You may recall a fangirlish rant about it on this LJ.
So, yeah. That's what I'm doing to keep my mind off the revisions I'm not yet starting. Oh, and diving into my Japan travel book! And getting a haircut, seeing a Nine Inch Nails concert and saying goodbye (sob!) to a pair of friends who are moving to Louisiana.
What are you doing this week?
