1. I roller skated for three hours without falling at all. Oh hells yes, I did.
2. Children are a roller skating hazard. I realize this is sort of an oxymoron in that roller skating is primarily a children’s activity, but it’s true. At least 50% of the crashes/falls I witnessed were in some way related to a kid, usually one who had fallen in the path of someone else.
3. I entered the rink (ring? a little short on the lingo here…) being able to skate adequately both clockwise and counterclockwise in a forward direction and also able to bring my feet in and out when I skate (picture my feet going apart, together, apart, together). I left the rink/ring/whatever being able to crossover on the turns (counterclockwise only, alas). W00t!
4. I discovered that I dance primarily with my lower body, which doesn’t work AT ALL while roller skating.
5. Highlight of the night: walking out behind a family and hearing one of the kids ask if they could come back again tomorrow. :D
