Book review: RIVER MARKED by Patricia Briggs

I stayed home from work today to read this, because I am just that fan-girly. (And I had some extra vacation time.)

River Marked (Mercy Thompson Series #6)River Marked by Patricia Briggs

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Great read!

This story has a different feel from the others in the series. It's less run-around-town-being-chased-by-magical-bad-guys and more wow-let's-learn-all-about-Native-American-lore. Still a great adventure and still plenty of danger and heart-in-your-throat moments, though. (And hyphens, apparently.)

As usual, I loved the continued development of Mercy's and Adam's relationship. I realized that's one of my favorite things about this series: Mercy's and Adam's relationship always feels like a quiet, happy comfort, even when one or both of them are in danger. I never feel like disaster is waiting for them (as a couple) around every corner, which is how a lot of authors build tension and keep interest in a relationship that spans multiple books (which is fine in those books, I'm not knocking it). I just really love the way that Briggs writes them--as a reader, I feel the unyielding certainty of their relationship just as they must feel it from each other.
