Picking up where I left off, here is a picture of Miriam Kriss, uber-agent (as her clients like to call her) or My Future Agent (as I like to call call her). Miriam loves Urban Fantasy and is very, very, very good at her job. And lots of fun, from what I hear.

Here's another picture of Rachel Caine, because I simply couldn't resist. :) This one was taken during the panel.

This is a shot of Vicki Pettersson and Jeri Smith-Ready.

I just recently finished Jeri's book EYES OF CROW. It's fantastic. I'll admit, my brain is a little fried right now from re-entry into Real Life so I'm going to take a short cut and post the blurb from the Jeri's website:
"Her Spirit carries the darkest wisdom...
Eyes of Crow
Enter a world where humans and animals meet in magic, where one woman's strength must conquer Death itself.
Every character in Eyes of Crow wields magic bestowed by his or her totem animal or Guardian Spirit—sort of X-Men meets Clan of the Cave Bear.
The Crow Spirit has given our heroine, Rhia, the power to see the approach of Death. This ability doesn't exactly make her the most popular girl in the village, but her rare talents just might save her people in a time of impending war."
It's a great read and I can't wait for the sequel, VOICE OF CROW which will be out in October 2007. Eyes of Crow won Romantic Times' 2006 Reviewer's Choice award for Best Fantasy Novel and was a Rita Award finalist. Definitely something to be added to your to-be-read pile.
I attended a few panels she participated in and had the chance to chat with her for a few minutes at the Book Fair. I found all her offerings at the panels to be valuable and she's got this very sneaky sense of humor. She's funny but in a way that you don't necessarily expect. I enjoyed meeting her.
This is Lynne Connolly. Lynne writes all kinds of things. I met her on Monday night, my first night there.

I arrived a few days early for the Beginner Writers Pre-Con and as part of the pre-con, Judi McCoy arranged for all of us to go out to dinner with some published authors. Lynne was among them and when I was introduced to her, I inquired what she wrote, how many books she had out, etc. I belive the published total is 49 to date. Damn. Lynne is from England and she has a fabulous accent (as does Keri Arthur, by the way, who is from Melbourne, Australia). I sat with her and Linnea Sinclair during dinner and it was too much fun. Linnea is a hoot. She writes sci-fi romance, which she describes as "Star Trek with sex". Linnea is also a Rita award winner, which I'm told is sort of like the Academy Award of writing. I'm not up on the whole award thing yet. Much to learn, much to learn.
In any case, Lynne, Linnea and I had a great discussion about what we were going to be wearing for the week, during which we determined that:
> I would be over-dressed in my business casual attire
> Lynne would be VERY over-dressed because she had brought gowns to wear (as pictured above at a breakfast mixer!)
> The word 'dress' should never be used again, replaced instead with 'frock'. As in, "I'm wearing a frock to tomorrow's panel." Or, "I'm going shopping at Frock Barn."
Here is a picture of me getting a book and bag signed by MaryJanice Davidson (squeal!).

I'm a huge fan of MaryJanice's Betsy the Vampire series. They are some of the funniest things in print, if you ask me. My husband now knows MaryJanice's name, but he used to identify her as "that one whose books you laugh through". I'm delighted to say she is exactly as funny in person as she is in her books. I attended several of her panels and several more where she contributed from her seat in the audience. The woman is just hilarious. And nice! She was very approachable and helpful, ready and willing to do whatever she could to assist us newbies. And she gave us a free book and a free canvas bag, therefore I love her extra. (Thanks to paranormal erotic romance author Renee George for taking this picture for me!)
