Word Count

I did manage to put words on the page tonight. So technically progress was made. However, I realized that pretty much all of what I wrote was ignoring a blatantly obvious fact about the story. So it needs to be scrapped and rewritten. Rock on, Reneé. Counting tonight's words (which will be trashed in the next writing session), I'm at a total of:

3,502 / 100,000 (3.5%)

That's right! After dozens of writing sessions, I have finally managed to achieve a single day of Rachel Vincent's word count! Whoo-hoo!!!! *bangs head on desk repeatedly*

Please tell me I'm not the only one who sat down the first time thinking this would be so much easier, that the words would just flow off my fingertips, that I would spend all my moments away from the keyboard aching to return...

Ok, I'm really not as downtrodden about this as I sound. I guess I'm just coming to terms with the reality of what I spent a considerable amount of time fantasizing about. And the truth is that I look at what I've written and get a little thrill just because it looks like the text of a book. Sure, I have nights like tonight where I write trash. But then sometimes I have nights where I read what I wrote last and -- stop the press -- it's not half bad.

This beginning is hard, but what beginning isn't?
